Sherry Rebecca Johnston of Charleston, S.C. and Justin Matthew Hoyle, of Charleston, S.C. were married on July 2, 2011 at First Baptist Church. Marshall Blalock, pastor, performed the 6 p.m. evening ceremony. A reception was held at The Historic Rice Mill.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Rebecca Simmons Johnston of Charleston and Mr. Edward Hayes Johnston, Jr. of Wagram. She is the granddaughter of the late Ralph Baxter Simmons, Jr. and Jean Hewston Simmons of Charleston and the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hayes Johnston of Wagram.
The bride is a graduate of North Carolina State University and received her Master’s degree from East Carolina University. She is employed as an art teacher at James Island Charter High School and is a jewelry designer for the Ellis-Nicholson Gallery.
The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Arthur Hoyle of Kernersville, N.C. He is the grandson of the late Mr. Charlie Dale Idol and Mary Glasscoe Idol, the late Loyd Cornelius Hoyle and the late Mrs. Ocie Hoyle Whitesides.
The groom is a graduate of North Carolina State University and was a Bronze Star recipient while serving as a United States Army Infantry Captain in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is presently a Captain in the Army Reserves and a student at the Charleston School of Law.
The bride wore a floor-length, three-dimensional, strapless gown adorned with lace appliqués and organza flowers and Swarovski crystals. She wore a cathedral length veil.
Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston Smithson of Charleston, sister of the Bride, and Mrs. Beth Grubbs Johnson of Danville, Va. were matrons of honor.
The Bride’s attendants were Mrs. Erin Guinn Hoover, Mrs. Jolee Fedak Johnson, Miss Sydney Elliott McIlwain, Mrs. Mary Norton Quick, and Dr. Amanda Thompson Roten.
Best man was Dr. John Arthur Hoyle, Father of the Groom. Groomsmen were Mr. Jonathan Mark Hoyle, Mr. Jason Andrew Hoyle, Mr. Jared Adam Hoyle, Mr. Christopher James Idol, Mr. Matthew Thomas Jewell, and Mr. Justin Merritt Smithson.
A bridesmaids luncheon was given by Sherry Johnston McIlwain at Muse.
A rehearsal dinner was given by Dr. and Mrs. John Arthur Hoyle at Granvilles.
The couple will honeymoon in Quebec City, Canada and will reside in Charleston.
